A. A complete description is lengthy and highly technical, but basically the electrologist directs a tiny, split-second impulse down to the hair root, destroying it so it can never produce another hair.
Q. What parts of the body can benefit from electrolysis?
A. Every part of the body. In fact, electrolysis is so cost-effective a procedure that relatively large areas, such as the back and legs, may be treated within the limits of time and budget.
Q. Is electrolysis really permanent?
A. Yes, foremost medical authorities agree that Electrolysis is the only proven permanent way to remove hair. By all means ask your own doctor about it.
Q. Is electrolysis painful?
A. For some, there is almost no feeling at all. For others, the sensation is similar to a mosquito bite or plucking.
Q. How about healing?
A. Healing is generally rapid. Occasionally, you may have a temporary redness, but it will quickly disappear with proper after-treatment care, as directed by your electrologist.
Q. What if hair seems to return while I'm being treated?
A. Your own previous attempts to remove hair will be the reason for this, as hair usually takes up to fourteen weeks to regrow. In other words, the growth will be hair that had not yet appeared when you started treatment. Electrolysis will remove it permanently.
Q. What is the right age for electrolysis?
A. Any age is right. In the case of preteens, we recommend that a physician be consulted before treatment begins.
Q. Are needles used in electrolysis?
A. No. A special type of wire filament, called a probe, was specifically developed for electrolysis treatments.
Q. Is electrolysis geared exclusively, or primarily toward women?
A. Absolutely not. Men are subject to many of the same medical conditions and cosmetic concerns that prompt women to seek permanent hair removal.
Q. Is electrolysis expensive?
A. As compared with many other beauty treatments, the cost is moderate. It is a small price to pay for a lifetime of freedom from unsightly, unwanted hair.
Q. Recently I have read about "alternative" hair removal machines and methods. Are they safe? Are they effective?
A. Electrolysis is the ONLY PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL METHOD available today. Beware of clever claims from would-be competitors. In1988, manufacturers of the electric tweezer, an unscientific and temporary method, were forbidden by the US Federal Trade Commission from claiming that their machine could effect permanent hair removal.
Q. How does laser hair removal compare to electrolysis?
A. According to a report by medical researcher James Schuster, M.D., "Currently, laser and flashlamp photoepilation are being marketed as effective for permanent hair growth reduction, with "reduction" being the key word. Unfortunately, there have been no long-term studies (greater than one year follow-up) with significant numbers of clients, published in peer reviewed medical journals to give us good data for comparison."
The consumer should also note that a brief electrolysis fee is five times less than a minimum laser treatment fee. AND...ELECTROLYSIS IS PERMANENT.
